shaman idea

Here are some experimental pieces I mocked up using the inspirations and research images but nothing set in stone yet even though I quite like some of them already .

research images and inspirations

Here is a few images I found online to help me form some shape and design to my character I also looked into the work of Peter Bara his cyborg 3D models are stunning pieces of work that really inspired me to go for the futuristic shaman type. I also loved the wrinkles on Clint Eastwood and thought he would be quite a bad ass Shaman figure. Another interest i wanted to add was a helmet in the Game of Thrones series worn by 'The Hound' so I wanted to create a shaman which also has an animal aspects because Shaman believed every person had their own spirit guide which usually takes forms of animals.

brief choice

On Monday 21/10/13 I was informed about a range of briefs to choice from for this semester. The aspect I want to focus on this year was 3D into games there was Two briefs that interested me, an animation brief or create a character for a game.. Since I already had advanced Animation as a module this year, I decided to focus more on the creating game character brief. This brief entails you to create one of three action/adventure game characters in both high and low poly.. Here is the choices I was given.

-Naturalistic and agile hero warrior based on the ancient Mayan culture
-Aggressive and brutish antagonist based loosely on Celtic Culture
- Peaceful and progressive shamanistic 'elder' figure based on 'futuristic' technology

The purpose of this brief is to build a reliable and deep resource of imagery and influences. I have decided to choose the Peaceful and progressive shamanistic elder which in my opinion means 'healer' in most games. So I will start researching into shaman history and use a spider diagram to lay out as much information so I can start building an image of this Character.

The next step is to create sketches and concepts to build up an idea of my final design. I will then proceed to build, sculpt, model texture and rig my high and low poly model and then create a turntable movie clip of my posed characters.

This brief doesn't have a style so I can use any style as far as I am aware but it does have a theme of action/adventure so I will try and explore this genre and see what elements I can use to help fuel my Research.

quick drawing

During a practical session in class we were set a task to do quick drawing studies of people going about their daily life these drawings consisted of only a couple of seconds to get an overall idea of human shape and form and also to try and capture their expressions. I found this task really difficult because its vastly different from life drawing as the models would be constantly moving and to capture motion of people walking or staying in one pose for a couple of seconds was difficult to grasp and is an area that I

can greatly improve on.

Week 2- tonal Practice during work 05/10/13

In the spare time i have during work i was able to have enough time to draw  Two quick five minute studies of tone on varies objects around me such as a mug and a stapler. i found it difficult to draw shiny surfaces such as the stapler being all black i tried to pick out the darkest areas. the mug was a little bit easier to draw picking out the highlights and is an easier shape to tone. More practice into tonal studies is  needed to improve on my existing skills.

Computer Arts Practice week 2- Tone

On Thursday 03/10/13.  I got to practice and brush up on my tonal work. The first drawing was a quick study of the object to acquire the shape and for quick practice. The 2nd image is a finer study observing into detail. By doing so i ran out of time to shade the image the way I wanted. The 2nd image was just over a hour and twenty minutes.I was disappointed that I ran out of time to complete this drawing. as i enjoyed working on my tonal skills.
